The goal for this highly customized jewelry store was to develop a new image for Harry Ritchie’s Jewelers, reflecting glamor, luxury, romance and timeless elegance, while creating an authentic identity that focused on Love and Family. The existing narrow storefront and deep space required creative space planning to meet the new display and functional requirements, resulting in a layout that is open and inviting. Five different shopping zones were created and built around a beautiful, sculptural, yet functional cashwrap. A variety of Lighting was used to highlight the design, including the use of a Fiber-optic “star/constellation” on the ceiling above the cash/wrap. Finishes were selected based on low-installation cost, longevity, low-maintenance combined with a spare, timeless palette, combining “warm” materials (wood cases, carpet, venetian plaster) with counterpoint of elegance (shimmering surfacing, brushed steel, silver fixtures), and hint of the playfully feminine (pleated gauzy curtain column covers). Branding through the use of display, signage and graphics was very carefully considered and was designed to be inseparable from the architecture. The signature branding element that binds these sensual layers, materials and forms is the custom “Love Graffiti wall,” With its “landscape” of swirling love poems, tumbling gems, flora, and moonlit sky.
