Passive House Details Book

Passive House Details introduces the concepts, principles, and design processes of building ultralow-energy buildings. The objective of this book is to provide design goals, research, analysis, systems, details, and inspiring images of some of the most energy-efficient, carbon-neutral, healthy, and satisfying buildings currently built in the region. Other topics included: heat transfer, moisture management, performance targets, and climatic zones. Illustrated with more than 375 color images, the book is a visual catalog of construction details, materials, and systems drawn from projects contributed from forty firms. This is a beautifully illustrated book — the pictures and the text go together in an elegant and evocative formalism that is extremely helpful and illuminating. I found particularly useful the photos of the construction process — this is rarely shown in the architectural press and is very important for that reason. This is not just a collection of photos of beautiful buildings – it is much more. The chapters go from foundation to floor to wall to roof to windows and special openings. The 14 case studies demonstrate the construction process. The graphics are very clear – with large scale details. An ideal reference book both for the professional and the student in high performance design.

Wow! This is a tremendous book and the best one on the subject so far. There are projects located all over the US, from Maine to Virginia to Colorado to Oregon . All of the houses are explained with beautiful details for primarily very modern designs. Highly recommend this book.

If you buy one book to help understand the detailing methods used to achieve the passive house standard, this is the one. The details shown are clear, easy to read and large enough to fully understand. They are completely relevant to the North American building sector, which is refreshing in the world of passive house “how to” books. As a practicing licensed Architect, Mechanical Engineer, Adjunct instructor and passive house consultant, I can say that this is hands down the best passive house detailing book that I have seen. I can’t wait for the 2nd addition. If you like the detailing books from 475 High Performance Supply, you’ll really enjoy this book as well.
