Certified Passive House Consultant

Jan Fillinger is an architect with 20 years of experience in the practice of sustainable design that includes climate-and site-responsive buildings, non-toxic and sustainable materials, and integration of energy-efficient building systems. A major focus of his work is design that incorporates social and environmental responsibility and adds richness to people’s lives, so that they can live and work in uplifting, fulfilling environments.

Jan was raised in Switzerland, where his exposure to the innate craft, powerful architecture and enduring cultural aesthetic of centuries and millennia past instilled in him a deep appreciation of- and commitment to quality, environmental sensitivity and aesthetic creativity.

He received a Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. After leading a large office in Berkeley for ten years, he and his family resettled to Eugene, Oregon in 1996. Jan’s expertise in green design has earned him the accreditation as a designer of projects that adhere to the sustainability standards of the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Our portfolio of work includes work on both continents, including religious, library, university, civic, mixed-use, office, and hospitality projects, as well as hundreds of residences. Our projects have won numerous awards and has been described in dozens of magazine and newspaper articles.

What We Do Best

Design of high performance buildings, with an emphasis on intelligent and sustainable construction practice, high indoor environmental quality, energy- and resource-efficiency, and life-cycle cost effectiveness.

High-performance buildings become exceptional when, at the heart of their design, the primary goal is to create harmonious and comfortable spaces in which people truly enjoy living and working.
